Brendan Murray
Northern Director

BMC have a great team to deliver your project with both on and off-site support to ensure full coverage.  We have built our business around delivering high volumes of dwellings to a quality standard and refined our systems to achieve this.  BMC is now a team of 37 strong. We have a large nationwide supply base of reliable subcontractors/suppliers and Contract Builders to support our own build crews.

We believe in the value of partnerships and aligning with our clients early in their projects to ensure the greatest value can be achieved for the client. We are confident in the great team we have built around us who will ensure we are able to deliver. Our scale and track record means we can deliver certainty to our clients, guaranteeing capacity.

Who We Are

Our Amazing Team

Leadership

Brendan leads the North Island operations, guiding strategy and performance across the Central North and Auckland/Northland regions. He supports Regional Managers Carl and Shaye, and plays a key role in national client relations and financial performance, ensuring growth and continuity for BMC and our clients.

Braeden oversees the South Island, guiding strategy and performance across all the Southern projects. He supports Regional Manager Matt and leading the continuous improvement of our operational processes. His focus is on driving quality delivery, team development, and systems that position BMC for long-term success.

Matt drives day-to-day operations in the South Island, overseeing projects, financials, and teams. He’s committed to delivering quality builds, strong client relationships, and operational excellence.

Southern Regional Manager

Andrew is an experienced accounting professional with 15+ years of expertise within the construction industry and financial management who possesses a diverse skillset that focusses on sound construction financial management. His main focus is on optimising efficiency and cash flow from project inception to completion. Skilled in budgeting, cost control, and risk management, Andrew is committed to ensure the business is soundly financially managed. With his extensive skill set, Andrew utilizes technology-driven accounting solutions and considers both financial and non-financial metrics and concepts. Andrew's wealth of knowledge is a great asset to the team at BMC.

Chief Financial Officer

Carl leads the Central division, driving project performance and efficiency across the region. With a focus on resource management, client relationships, and consistent delivery, he plays a key role in maintaining BMC’s reputation for quality outcomes.

Central Regional Manager

Shaye leads the Northern division, overseeing project delivery and team performance across the region. With a strong focus on stakeholder collaboration and continuous improvement, he helps ensure BMC remains a trusted partner wherever we operate.

Shaye Welch

As Executive Assistant, she closely collaborates with the senior management team. Her key responsibilities involve managing schedules, coordinating meetings, handling communication, organizing documents, and providing administrative support. These tasks are vital for ensuring smooth operations, efficient workflow, and effective communication within the company. She also oversees the well-being of the company staff, ensuring they have the necessary resources for their tasks, such as arranging training or providing new uniforms. Despite facing daily challenges, as a mother of two active boys, she excels in organization and multitasking to fulfil her diverse roles within the company.

Jamie-Lee Tu’ua

Executive Assistant

With over 20 years’ experience in the construction industry, Daryl’s knowledge is evident in how he manages a construction site. Daryl’s role within the company is to make sure all health and safety practices are upheld on site and well documented. Daryl reports daily to Braeden to ensure all foreman and sub-contractors are carrying out work to the highest standard.

Dan has been working as a qualified quantity surveyor for the past 15 years. With experience in the residential and construction industries, Dan has been involved in a vast range of complex projects that require both attention to detail and efficient communication with different clients. Outside of work, he enjoys working out and fishing with his son.

Dan Williams

Quantity Surveyor

Michael is a Quantity Surveyor with 4 years’ experience within the PQS environment. His Trade background and knowledge within Architectural and Building Services (MEP) gives him a well- rounded understanding of the project life cycle. Michael’s various project experience includes office fitouts, schools, libraries, hospitals, aquatic centres, and substations. Michael intends to further build on his project portfolio with the BMC team. When Michael isn’t in the office he enjoys sports, fishing and cooking.

Michael Leggett

Quantity Surveyor

Tim has recently joined BMC as Quantity Surveyor. He brings with him over 10 years of experience in the construction industry. Tim is passionate about being a part of a team and manages all aspects of a project from design to final handover. Tim will manage and support with tenders, procurement and project coordination and is a great addition to the BMC team. Tim also enjoys being outdoors and can often be found mountain biking, snow-boarding and fishing when he isn’t in the office.

She completed her Diploma in Construction – Quantity Surveying in 2023. Mikayla enjoys problem-solving, cost analysis, collaborating with a team to finish projects, and witnessing client satisfaction at project handover. Her daily tasks involve procurement and financial analysis, contract administration, liaising with subcontractors, and assisting in cost management throughout projects.

Ethan joined BMC in 2022 as a labourer and soon began an apprenticeship. After a year on-site, he moved to another company before deciding to pursue Quantity Surveying in 2024. The timing aligned with Carl reaching out, and Ethan returned to BMC in a new role while continuing his studies. Since then, he’s continued to build on his practical experience while studying, thriving in BMC’s supportive, fast-paced, and team-focused environment. He’s known for his strong work ethic, eagerness to learn, and bringing good energy to the team environment.

Hadlee joined Brendan Murray Construction in 2023 and is based in Whangarei, where he lives with his wife and four children. Growing up locally and becoming a qualified builder in 2016, he brings a wealth of experience to the team having completed large scale commercial and residential projects across the Northland region. Hadlee has an impeccable reputation in the local construction industry, which he has earnt through applying his strong organisational and management skillset to the projects that he has been involved with. When not on site, he enjoys spending quality time with his family and playing rugby/golf.

Ziggy has 10+ year’s experience in the construction industry. Before moving to BMC Ziggy worked for a small company doing architectural builds, doing this he learnt great eye for detail and quality workmanship. These skills have followed through to his position of Project Manager at BMC. He is continually looking for new ways for tasks to be completed at a fast and high standard. Ziggy enjoys motivating his team on site and managing sub-contractors to ensure his projects are on schedule. Outside of work Ziggy enjoys time on the rugby field and spending time with his wife and two boys.

Tom and Brendan have been working alongside each since the beginning. During this time they have grown a respectful and enjoyable working relationship. Brendan has complete trust in Tom and when it comes to dealing with clients, Sub – Contractors and consultants tom has a great approach earning him respect throughout the industry.

Thomas Nyenhuis

Project Manager

Matt started building after the 2011 Christchurch Earthquakes. His experience is vast and his past focus has been on high-scale renovations, high-end residential projects and multi-story units. Matt has an eye for detail, immense knowledge of the industry and excellent leadership skills making him well-equipped as a Project Manager. Matt will see jobs through from start to completion and is passionate about managing and adapting to ensure the job gets done to a high standard. Outside of work Matt enjoys spending time with his 3 kids and partner, socializing and working out.

Lee started his construction journey in Europe at the age of 18. Lee went on to serve as a Physical Training Instructor in the RNZAF before gaining experience in commercial construction and underground drilling in Aus. Since returning to NZ in 2015, he’s progressed from builder to site manager to running his own company. He has worked through all areas of construction which brings a great understanding of what is required with solid experience to back it up. Lee is known for his clear communication, high standards, and practical leadership. He enjoys surfing, motocross with his family, and working on project cars in his spare time.

Site Managers

Jason moved from the UK in 2013 and started NZ carpentry. Before Jason became a carpenter, he served in Her Majesty’s Forces for 6 years. Jason shows great leadership, he is motivated and organised which shows on his site. His day-to-day activities include reporting, meetings, ordering materials, and managing the teams on site. When Jason isn’t working, he enjoys Downhill MTB, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Avneet started as an apprentice with Brendan in 2016, qualified early 2020 and has recently taken the position of Site Manager. Avneet has great time management and work ethic, he is reliable and has an eye for detail which makes him a great Site Manager. He enjoys working alongside subs to ensure all work is completed to a high standard. Av enjoys working out and socialising when he isn’t on site or in the office.

Henry finished school in 2014 and got straight into a building apprenticeship and became qualified in 2017. He then took his skills overseas where he worked as a landscaper in England for two years. Henry has taken on the new role of Site Manager and is enjoying the responsibility of his role. He brings great energy and leadership experience to the site. Henry enjoys playing sport and going to the gym in his spare time.

Originally from the far North, Scott has been involved in the building industry 5+ years. He has experience working on high-end residential homes before joining BMC. In his role at BMC, he collaborates closely with subcontractors on-site to ensure the smooth and safe progress of the construction. His responsibilities include managing building materials, scheduling inspections, overseeing health and safety measures, and resolving any issues that may arise.

Moe is originally from England and started in the construction industry as soon as he finished school. Moe has a vast range of experience in civil, commercial and residential building. He brings a great range of skills to the team and enjoys teaching our younger staff all he knows. Moe enjoys the challenge of building and helping manage the process from start to finish. He is an outdoors man and enjoys hunting & fishing in his beautiful backyard – Nelson!

Jack Sharpe started out as a qualified builder at BMC and has progressed to the role of leading hand. Jack is a great builder who finishes each task to a high standard. Day to day he works alongside the site manager by overseeing all builds on site and running daily meetings with the team to set tasks for the day. As a leading hand he enjoys assisting with the management side of the build while still being on the tools. On the weekend Jack enjoys watching and playing sport!

Hayden started building in 2011 and has experience in both residential and commercial builds. Hayden enjoys being a part of a team, keeping fit on the job and seeing the progress from the beginning of the build to client handover. Hayden spends his free time hanging out with mates, and relaxing over a few beers.

Jack started working with Brendan as an apprentice, and has since qualified. Jack is passionate about building, has a good eye for detail, and good general knowledge of the industry. Jack is known for good banter which makes him easily approachable. Jack uses his excellent leadership skills day to day by leading the carpentry teams and passing on his knowledge to the apprentices. When Jack isn’t on the tools he enjoys all things outdoors, long walks on the beach and a beer or two with the lads!

Rory has worked his way up through the ranks, gaining solid experience on the tools and becoming a trusted leading hand on site. With a strong work ethic and a sharp eye for detail, Rory plays a key role in guiding the carpentry team and assisting the site manager, keeping things running smoothly day to day.
